•Details Of The Classy Chieftaincy Event @ GBONGAN
The ancient town of Gbongan in Ayedade Local Government Area of Osun State came to life on Friday 6th of April, 2022 when Professor Adebayo Alamu Williams was installed as the Asiwaju Otun Olufi of Gbonganland.
The event was held at Royal Palace and right in front of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Adetoyese Oyeniyi, Odugbemi 1, the Olufi of Gbongan land. The ceremony was grand and epic. It was well attended by top dignitaries and eminent Nigerians, as they stormed the palace in their numbers to witness the ceremony. Notable among them were Dr Wale Babalakin, Pa Ayo Opadokun, Chief Wale Adenuga, Professor Tunde Makanju, Senator Sola Adeyeye and Kayode Soyinka.
Professor Williams and his beautiful wife, Bolanle Williams arrived at the palace in style. They had a glamorous entry which was simply heroic, as they were greeted by the traditional and royal drummers. They sang traditional eulogies to honour the lovely couple as they approached the palace reception. Prof. and his wife were dressed in a sparkling blue dry lace outfit, looking gorgeous and commanding class in its entirety. As they were ushered into the palace, they went round to salute the high chiefs already seated after which they went to embrace family, friends and associates that graced the ceremony. The proceeding of the conferment ceremony began immediately after Oba Adetoyeso arrived the palace and sat on his throne. His high chiefs were all seated for the ceremony proper.
Having welcomed Professor Williams and his wife, their guests that came from far and near, the king instructed one of his highly revered chiefs, Ruben Odejimi, the Otun Jagun Olufi of Gbongan land to proceed with the installation of the chieftaincy title. Meanwhile, he emphasized on the significance of the title being conferred on the celebrant as a big one which is usually earned by ascending from one stage to another. He said it was not an honorary title. Barrister Femi Kehinde gave a brief introduction of Professor Williams’s impressive profile to the gathering.
The Kabiyesi and his Olori, therefore, prayed for the newly installed Asiwaju Otun Olufi of Gbongan land and his wife respectively. The high chiefs had their prayer session showered on him, while the princes, the baales and the Iyalodes of the land blessed them as well. Adding spice to the entire ceremony was the scintillating stage performance of the Ogunjimi Cultural Dance Troupe, an Osogbo based group. They really impressed the King and the general audience with their display.
The reception party was done after the conferment ceremony was held. It was highly classy and quite exciting. Waleola Courts in Gbongan was the venue for the glamorous party. Guests present at the event were entertained by the popular music group. The Survival Melody Band as Olusoji Ajibade was the anchor of the day. Food was made available courtesy Pat B Ecowas Catering Service while Healthbuddy provided fruit trays and served fruits to the delight of guests.
The majority of the personalities that attended the conferment ceremony done earlier in the day were also present at the reception party. Professor Adebayo Williams is one of Nigeria’s best known erudite scholars who is globally recognised. His father, Johnson Bolarinwa Williams was a prominent political elite in his days. He was the first elected Councillor in Gbongan. History has it that JP Williams was an ally of the likes of Adejoke Adelabu, Fani Kayode, Richard Akinjide and so on. He brought the legendary Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe to the town for political purposes.
He no doubt is a man of great taste for good cars and wines. He loves being in an intellectual environment. Being installed as the Asiwaju Otun Olufi of Gbongan land was long overdue. His coming on board as a high chief of the land means a lot to the entire community.
