Arsenal’s goal machine Olivier Giroud, has hailed his stunning ‘scorpion’ kick goal against Crystal Palace on Sunday, as the best he has ever scored.
The Gunners defeated Sam Allardyce’s side 2-0, to go third behind Chelsea and Liverpool.
Giroud gave Arsenal the lead, after stretching to connect with Alexis Sanchez’s cross behind him and arcing the ball over Wayne Hennessey.
The Frenchman, whose goal has been compared to the one scored by Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan against Sunderland, admits it was down to luck.
“I think it’s my best one,” Giroud said.
“Alexis gave me the ball a bit behind and I tried to take it [with the] backheel and I had a lot of luck.
“It was just about luck! I was not on good balance.
“It was a great feeling and I wanted to score from the first minute.
“I tried to deflect it. In this position you can do something else, so I was lucky and it’s nice for me and nice for the team.”
Asked if he had ever scored a similar goal, he said: “Not at all, so that’s why I enjoyed it
