A really horrific footage has been released showing the moment black school worker Philando Castile was shot dead by an officer.
According to Daily Star UK, it was a killing that sparked mass protests across the US after Mr Castile was blasted to death while he sat in a car with his fiancée, Diamond Reynolds, and her four-year-old daughter.
Officer Jeronimo Yanez claimed he spotted the 32-year-old driving past and believed the shape of his nose reminded him of a suspect wanted for armed robbery.
When stopped, Mr Castile told him he was a licensed gun owner and had a concealed weapon. As he reached for his driving licence, Yanez opened fire.
The officer was charged with manslaughter but was acquitted by a jury – made up of 10 white and two black people – last week in St Paul, Minnesota.
Civil rights campaigners have branded the verdict an injustice and yet more proof of institutionalised racism in America’s police forces.
The harrowing police dashcam footage – released by cops in the US overnight – shows Yanez telling Mr Castile he had been pulled over in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, because of a broken rear light.
When the cop asks to see his licence and registration, Mr Castile calmly tells him: “Sir, I do have to tell you that I have a firearm on me.”
The officer is heard saying: “Well don’t reach for it then. Don’t pull it out.”
He points his own gun into the car and seconds later fires off a repeated number of shots.
Ms Reynolds screams as her four-year-old daughter is seen running from the car after witnessing the horrific killing.
The devastated fiancée was live streaming on Facebook at the time.
Her harrowing video showed the devastating aftermath as Mr Castile lay slumped and bloody inside the car.
She can later be heard sobbing as more officers arrive at the scene.
Mr Castile was a much-loved school cafeteria worker and was said to have known every child by name.
His shooting was one of several to spark the Black Lives Matter movement in the US.
A 12 member jury deliberated for five days before announcing their decision on Friday afternoon (June 16).
After Officer Yanez, 29, was found not guilty of manslaughter, Ms Reynolds released a statement, saying: “I am incredibly disappointed with the jury’s verdict.
“My boyfriend, Philando Castile, was pulled over because, per Officer Yanez, he had a wide nose and looked like a suspect.
“He did nothing but comply with Officer Yanez’s instructions to get his driver’s license. He was seatbelted and doing as he was told, when he was shot by Officer Yanez who fired 7 shots into the vehicle where my four-year-old daughter and I also sat.
“It is a sad state of affairs when this type of criminal conduct is condoned simply because Yanez is a policeman. God help America.”
The victim’s furious mother, Valerie Castile, said outside court: “I’m mad as hell right now. My son loved this city and this city killed my son.
“The system continues to fail black people.”
