You are here for your mother-in-law’s burial, the late Alhaja Ejide. What are you going to miss about her?
I am going to miss many things about Mama. I am going to miss her prayer and her loving tender care. She cared for all. She had been a mother to me since I married her son more than 39 years ago. I pray that she rests in peace. Aljanas Fidau for her insha Allah. I remembered how she welcomed me whole heartedly many years ago. She was more than happy when she saw me. I wanted to spend a few minutes you know as normal new bride, but I ended up spending many hours. Mama was nice to a fault. She was a very warm person and highly kind-hearted. She gave me moral support. I would miss everything about Mama. Did I mention her many advice which has helped my marriage? I take many things after Mama.
You look so beautiful and charming, one can not say you are in your 50s, what is the secret of your youthful look?
I turned 59 on May 27th. The secret of my youthful look is pure peace of mind. I give myself peace both in marriage and business. I also believe in natural foods. I am a natural person. I eat natural food. I eat vegetables a lot too. Everything about me is natural. I hardly do make-up. I leave my face to breath and only make up when necessary. Like today, I did this make-up just because of the party.
What do you call your husband?
I call my husband M.O. that is an accronym of his name (smiles).
How did you meet your husband?
I met my husband more than 40 years ago. It was at a friend’s party at Isale-Eko. We just got attracted to each other. We dated for a while before we signed the dotted lines.
What did he say to you on the first day?
My husband is a very real man. He didn’t mince words to tell me who he was. He said: “I am from a very poor family. He said 3 generation could not be poor. I was like what has that got to do with me. He said you have to listen to me baby. I challenged him on why he said that and he beamed with smile. He was very determined even as a young man. I knew he was going to make it because of his zeal and seriousness and to God be the glory.
What has sustained your marriage to Senator Musiliu Obanikoro?
Perseverance, understanding and believing and trusting each other. I will also say cooperation and support.
It is not easy to be married to a politician not to even say a handsome one?
Well, it is patience. You must also learn how to be highly accommodating as the wife of a politician. You must understand all. By all, I mean both sexes. You must be giving assistance to those who need help. I have learnt much from my husband’s philanthropic nature.
Your husband is very handsome, how do you cope with his female admirers?
It is not a threat to me. He knows what he is doing. Whenever he is out there, home comes first, members of his home are paramount to him. He has been doing that right from when he was younger and he has not stopped till date. My husband cherishes family bond and values much . He is a caring loving, responsible father to all.

It is a natural maintanance. I don’t bleach my skin and I knew I shouldn’t do that early in life. I am a proud grandmother of 11. I thank God for that.

I give God the glory and honour to Almighty Allah. Yes, Alhaja Fausat Alatise has been my friend for over 30 years. We started our friendship at old age. I have other friends too. I believe having friends at high places is not by one’s power, it’s Allah’s grace that has crowned our efforts. To Him, all the glory must be given . It is hard labour that Allah decided to crown. We do our business and bear no grudge.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Lagos. I am an Eko girl proper. From Isale Eko to Idumota to Pedro. I grew up on Lagos Island Ward A and B to be precise.
