In the last few weeks, the entertainment industry has taken a new dimension. Top notch Yoruba movie actors have changed the narrative of movie production. They have proven to the world with their top quality movies and impressive individual craft that Yoruba actors are the best when it comes to story telling and delivery.
On 20th July, the exceptional actor, producer and director, award winning star actor, joined the league of cinema movie producers. Though he has been featuring in Cinema movies back to back but has also decided to take a step further by producing an outstanding Cinema movie titled “ORISA” which is not only trending but also topping the chart all over, hitting 100m views in less than a month is not a joke.
And just in a twinkling of an eye another blockbuster from the stable of exceptional filmmaker, Femi Adebayo who has been producing Cinema movies back to back released Jagunjagun on Netflix on the 10th of August and it was widely accepted. As a matter of fact the particular movie raised the bar of many Yoruba actors in the entertainment industry.
The next one people can’t wait to see is KESARI (the King) coming from one and only epitome of talent, star actor Ibrahim Yekini popularly known as Itele. an actor who has proven himself worthy of all the accolades he’s currently getting. KESARI is coming to the cinemas on 25th of August. City People Head of TV, SUNDAY ADIGUN had a chat with Itele, and he revealed what many people dont know about the new movie “KESARI” (The King). Let me start by commending your outstanding delivery in Orisa and Jagunjagun. Now we are expecting your own on the 25th of August, if I may ask what really inspired Kesari (the king)?
It has always been my dream to create a very good action movie in yoruba. to create a hero, the likes of Sango, Ogun and Obatala. and when I now watched a movie “John Wick” it really inspired me a lot and I thought of doing something like this whereby the actor will be a tough hero who nobody can really conquer or kill.
Then how is this one different from the Kesari(s) that we’ve had before?
It is the same Kesari but this one is another story entirely, different narration, another journey, another set of disciples and another magic. And why I’m bringing this to the cinema is because of the dream I have for it. I had the dream of Kesari long time ago and I know it’s big but I released those first ones on youtube because of the money I had then. I’ve been waiting for so long for this to come to reality. I was waiting for people to sponsor me, to assist me in bringing it to life. And like I said, it’s another story entirely, another narration, same Kesari character coming with another journey entirely. I got the title before the story, and I know it’s unique.
Can you tell us the worth of the project?
I don’t really want to talk about it but for you, Kesari is close to a 120 million naira project, tested and trusted, so you know what to expect. with pre production, shooting and post production. It’s close to 120 million naira.
So what should your fans expect on the 25th of August?
They should expect magic. they should expect a very good storyline. They should expect showcasing our culture in a very different way. they should expect creativity, something very unique. top notch unbelievable creativity. Normally that is how I think. I like to do something that stands out. I don’t want to be like anybody. I know I won’t disappoint my fans.
Your delivery in any role given is always outstanding, what really informs that? What have you done to improve yourself that much?
All these are what I’ve been keeping for long. I’m an a talented actor. If you give me your script I will read the script and immerse myself in the character. I will make sure I understand the character in that script very well and ask myself how do I make this character come to reality. Thats how I do my thing. I always like to put my signature in every character I play in movies. Once I understand the character I bring out the best in me, even if you say im doing Pastor. That is the way I interprete my character. Every good actor must know how to carry your audience along. let your audience always think about you. Thats what I do with the help of God.
