From this past, including musical genres of varied epochs from 1920 till date, as contained in this collection, Lagos has come through with its own identity, that is both accommodatingly fluid, dynamic and enduring.
Indeed, through her various cultural mosaics – Eyo, Lagos Carnival, Fashion, Cuisines, Values, Theatrical Productions, Arts, Music, etc “the traditional pride and dignity characteristics of Lagosians of Old is back in our daily expressions and aspirations, we are expressing who we are naturally – an industrious people; full of pride and confidence.
Therefore, “unless a heightened knowledge of the past of cities are made part of the immediacy of residents everyday lives in the present, they will not fully appreciate the fact that the cities in which they live are, substantially even, if not wholly, their creations…” – UN-Habitant (2002)
Herein, is the basis for this EVERGREEN musical documentation, ‘Those Days in Lagos’ produced to:
a) Advance increased popular musical knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural underpinnings of those practices that enliven the spirit of unity in diversity and communal development in Lagos – Nigeria’s lagoon city and Africa’s megacity of immense opportunities and limitless possibilities.
2) Determine the thought, fashion, style, music and politics of a 50 years Existence of a particular Era.
3) Encourage originality in all spheres of our cultural lives.
