The first (eldest)daughter in a Yoruba Family is known and called BEERE. She bears a lot of responsibilities, like her male counterpart, AARE’MO, the shortened form of AARE OMO.
Our own dear BEERE , Shakirat Modupeola Adebimpe, wife of Oladipo Odusola,is 40 years old today.May God continue to love, protect,guide and bless her. Amen.
M.O, that’s her alias, which she shares with my dear mother, her paternal grandmother, Mama Mopelola (I am complete in honours),is a good copy of the Yoruba ideal(role model) daughter cited in the axiom:”BI OMO ENI BA DARA,K’A WI.A KO NI FI S’AYA.”(If our daughter is exemplary, let us profess it.We shall not marry her.)
Let me be brief in my presentation of M.O and rest my case, as they say in her profession, LAW. Modupeola , is much like me, her best friend from birth, youth, adulthood, until her darling husband, Oladipo, the proverbial prince in a shining armour, emerged from Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State of Nigeria, with a bow, courtesied to me and politely said: “Sir, thank you and Mum for breeding a pious, beautiful, bright, cultured and learned Ibadan lady. Can I have her hand in marriage, Sir?
God knows, that I, and M.O’s mum, had no hesitation in giving our nod to Oladipo. And,God willing, we shall never rescind our noble approval of their divine union, nor regret it. Amen.
My darling M.O(Dipo,never mind),today, though special, it’s your God-ordained day of celebration, like always. He will continue to imbue you with sound health, wisdom, courage, victory, mercy, honour, joy and contentment. Amen.
The more reason why I gave you the remarkable name – MODUPEOLA(I am grateful for the honours.)
