Have you noticed that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC Presidential candidate, loves K1 a lot? If you have followed all the recent APC campaigns around Nigeria you must have noticed how Asiwaju loves to dance to K1s music, at the campaign ground.
What Citypeople has found out is that anytime K1 sings about Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, usually breaks out dancing to his songs. And Asiwaju has this peculiar contemporary dance steps that makes him look up to date,socially. He will swing his two hands in reaction to the beat.
That Tinubu usually reacts that way is because of the peculiar way K1 serenades Asiwaju.K1 has a way he eulogises Asiwaju that makes his head swell, especially when he goes deep into Asiwaju’s oriki. He usually takes him back memory lane. For instance he calls him Akanbi and commends his heroic deeds and leadership qualities.
K1 doesn’t just eulogise Tinubu, he does it in a unique way. His lyrics about Asiwaju are strong and deep. A good example was how he praise sang him at the Teslim Balogun mega rally in Lagos. In his lyrics,he warned all Asiwaju Tinubu’s enemies to desist from their plot to bring him down and rubbish him despite all he has accomplished.He dropped a few hints, philosophically, that Tinubu can’t be treated shabbily, the way previous Yoruba leaders were treated in the past and robbed of their victory at the polls.He was of course referring to what happened to late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and late, MKO Abiola,whose election was annulled.K1 warned those in the corridors of power that they cannot destroy Tinubu’s chances and go scot free.
He recalled a popular Yoruba proverb “Ije ti a je tete,enikan ko le je dagunro be,” meaning we cannot eat Dagunro (a deadly form of vegetable) the way we eat Tete (a healthy vegetable).He reminded the Cabal who are against Tinubu’s ambition that Asiwaju is an Omo Aye, meaning that he is special person who is divinely protected. He revealed that Asiwaju is an akanda eeyan, whose path has always been divinely defined.
Truly so.K1 has studied Asiwaju over time and he has been a close associate of the APC presidential candidate. Both of them have come a long way.K1 genuinely loves Asiwaju and believes in his leadership capabilities. Tinubu in turn loves K1’s mastery of his craft.So it wasn’t a big surprise when Tinubu made K1 the official musician of APC Presidential Campaign and he was the one who entertained members at most of the rallies.
Unknown to many,K1 is not just an ordinary member of APC, he is a valued member and one of the financiers of the party and the campaign. He has invested heavily in funding party activities, both in cash and gifts. He has infact sponsored candidates into key positions. He is an APC party chieftain.
What endeared Tinubu to K1 is because he has found the Fuji King to be very loyal and dependable. Insiders revealed that K1 is one of the most trusted aides of Tinubu who goes ahead to represent his interest anywhere ,even when Asiwaju is not aware of the critical role he plays from time to time. Revealed a source, he is one of those who funded some of the political groups campaigning for Asiwaju.Unlike some others who look forward to what is in it for them,K1 spends freely without looking back at what is in it for him.Anywhere Asiwaju wants him to go and play,he goes without looking back.He is committed to Asiwaju through and through and he doesn’t hide it.And he is selfless in his support.
His deep involvement in the APC Presidential Campaign has taken a lot of his time.It has made him go off the music scene for a long while.With the exception of a few shows here and there he has not been taking up shows.
Once the elections are over,K1 will go back fully into taking up shows,because a lot of his fans have missed him.
He is billed to perform in London soon.
That is why many believe King of Fuji music, K1 is a very lucky man. He is a man blessed with the Grace of God. And he has become increasingly lucky with the wide acceptance that his music has received globally.
That he is popular is no longer in doubt. That his music is widely accepted is not debatable.
Over the last 5 years, he has moved from Glory to Glory. He himself has stepped up his game. He has made his music very appealing to the vast majority and he has made Fuji music danceable.
No wonder, there is a huge demand for him.
Practically everyone wants him to play at their party. People now book months ahead, to get a slot. People approach him first before they pick a date for their parties, because it may change if K1 is not free on the day they chose.
City People can authoritatively reveal that K1 has been fully booked from March till the end of this year. And all the bookings are fully paid for. That is why he will need to continue to play,most times twice a day from Mondays to Sundays,to catch up with the backlog of shows he has.
Before the Campaigns started almost every day, he had shows across the country.
Most times, he now has 2 shows a day and he copes well.
He also drives himself once it’s a long journey. He loves to drive himself. He loves to be behind the wheels. He loves strong and durable vehicles.
He loves Jeeps. He loves Hilux Jeeps. Because he travels a lot he goes for solid vehicles.
Why is K1’s music in high demand? Why do many celebrities want K1,who some choose to call Wasiu, to play at their parties?We can tell you the answer to that for free.
It is because they love his music. It is also because they love the rhythm of his songs. And his music is danceable. He knows what to sing that will put all the ladies on their feet. Many of them can mime his songs from A to Z. That is how hooked they are on his music.
Let us tell you more about k1 who was born as Wasiu Omogbolahan Olasunkanmi Adewale Ayinde Marshal on 3 March 1957.Don’t forget that he popularised a brand of the Fuji genre based on the work of the Fuji creator Ayinde Barrister, known as Talazo Fuji, that appeals to all age groups, irrespective of tribe and background.
He discovered his interest in music when he was 8. His parents initially opposed his desire to be a musician but he continued to pursue his passion and by the time he was 15 he had won various local musical competitions. He later became a member, of Ayinde Barrister’s band, The Supreme Fuji Commanders from 1975 to 1978 after previously serving under him as Instrument packer. He also adopted the name of Ayinde into his name after seeking the permission and blessing of his master, Ayinde Barrister. He released his first album titled Iba with the special track ‘Abode Mecca’ in 1980, and thereafter, his most successful album Talazo ’84 in 1984. He has won many titles and several music awards.
K1 began his global tour between North America and Europe in 1986 and performed at Hammersmith Town Hall in 1987. That was followed by New York City, United States with full Talazo Band on Sep. 28 1990, London Yuppie 1 & 2 Nights 1991/92, European Tour 1995, Berlin 1997, North America (the USA & Canada ’98), Canada 2000, and USA Tour 2003. He has continued non-stop touring annually since. In 1995 he delivered the first Fuji performance ever at WOMAD Festival. He is also the only Fuji musician to perform at Troxy, WOMEX and SOB.
He has many chieftaincy titles and awards, such as Badabarawu of Ogijo in 1985, Ekerin Amuludun of Ibadanland in 1986,
Golden Mercury of Africa Title in 1986, Honoris Causa of Music at Saint John University Bakersfield California USA in 1989, Crowned as King of Fuji, (Oluaye Fuji Music) at NTA Ibadan in 1993,the Oluomo of Lagos by King Adeyinka Oyekan of Lagos in 1999.
On Monday, January 13, 2020, he was installed by the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi as the first Mayegun of Yorubaland.
