•Reveals The Major Mistakes Women Make With Thier Skin
Susan Maxwell is a very beautiful lady, blessed with good skin that glows. Everywhere she goes, ladies ask her to tell them the secret of her flawless skin. She is one of the leading Skin therapists in Lagos. She is also an Actress who is very good at acting. She has excelled in the 2 professions. For Susan Maxwell, acting came first, before she developed a passion for skincare. And she dabbled into that business. What has kept her going all these years?
“I will say its the grace of God that has pushed me this far and the way I have been constant with everything I do. What has helped also is the focus I have put into what I do. Plus, what I saw in what I do 10 years to 11 years back. I started this cosmetic, cream business in 2009 to be precise. A lot of men and women have since joined this cosmetic business, mixing cream, working on terrible skin. A lot of people didn’t see what I saw then, despite the fact that there was a whole lot of people in that business then. Right now, a lot of women want to go into the cream business, cosmetics, looking good. When I started it was so, so, rough. It was not as sweet as what we are enjoying now.”
“When I started my cream business, I was still acting then, but it got to a time I felt I needed to push my brand more. Acting is a beautiful business that I feel if you have something to start you can still come back and do the business. So, I had to just slow down in acting, so I can focus on my cream business. Some of my clients, the major ones, kept saying they would want to see me, they would want to see the person working on their skin. How sweet and clean her skin is. And to see if they can trust their skin to this person. Some of them kept insisting then that they needed to see me, one-on-one. They all wanted to have this one-on-one interaction with me.”
“Then, I was still very active in location. I will spend 5 to 6 days on location. I won’t be able to see these wonderful people who want to buy my product. So, I had to just slow down the movie aspect a bit, while I pushed my own private brand, my own company. So, I had to step down movies a bit and push my brand to the level it is today and I am still praying to God to help me push it more”. What made her go into the skincare business then? “It was because I realised that a lot of the ladies I meet on the road, they have terrible skin, especially their faces. They suffer from pimples, acne, spot. When you ask them what happened they will say they bought one product in one place and used it and it caused problems for them. I am like ok. If this is basically what people want I think I have to go and study how to help them. It has always been my interest to go into anything about beauty. My first brand name was Ajisoge (wake up for beauty).
It has always been in me that I want ladies, women, to have good skin, I want to work on people’s skin. I want them to have this confidence in their skin. Each time they are out, with or without makeup.
That was what made go into it. This is one thing I like, sitting, attending to people, listening to a lot of things about their skin. I think skin is the major thing that is trending now in the whole world.
Popular skin care Therapist, Susan Maxwell has told City People the many mistakes that celebrity women make about their skin that make them have skin problems.
She says the first mistake a lot of women make is when they see a woman that has good skin, the next thing is they will approach the person and ask, please what are you using? And she will tell them I am using this and this and this. And they will pack 5 to 10 things together. Your Skin is not something, you can toil with because this skin is what will last forever. What is good for Skin A may not be good for Skin B. I always educate and advise women not to copy what other women are using on their skin. As Skin therapists, we usually examine the skin of our clients and then we would give them what goes well on their type of skin. We have different types of skin. If you go and use what one person is using you might just react to it. The major problem is using the wrong products on your skin. When you use the wrong products then you will get it wrong. If you get it wrong, it will take time to get it right. It takes time to repair or get it right when it is damaged. It takes a longer time. And you spend money.
I tell women to be careful about what they put on their skin. Or what you apply on your skin, because there are a lot of old and dangerous products out there. Everybody wants to look good. Everybody wants to make money. You just have to be careful of what you use on your skin. There are some skins that you don’t have to tamper with in terms of bleaching.
There are some skins that don’t have that strength to take bleaching. All you need to do is to maintain that particular skin, just leave the melanin tone and maintain it like that. There are some skins that you can stretch to a certain level. There are some skins that you can stretch to the last level. That is dangerous. My advice to women is if you are getting it right just stay on that lane. Don’t try to get it to the extreme. If you are getting it right, oh I am 2 shades lighter, than your normal skin I think it’s fine, going by our weather in Nigeria. That is if you want to go into enhancing your skin.
But if you don’t need to do that, if you have lovely skin, then you can just maintain it if you have a good therapist that can work on that particular skin. But if you really, really want to do it, you have to get it right”
How come she changed her name from Ajisoge to a new one. “I used to be Ajisoge. Even up till now a lot of people still refer to me as Ajisoge. I loved that name when I was using it. But when I began to have international clients abroad, like black Americans, they found it difficult to pronounce that name. So, I decided to get a name everybody can relate to.
So I picked Skin Fantasy. Fantasy is something you enjoy. So, I thought, let me have an English name that everybody can relate too. But some people still call me Ajisoge. I think I enjoy skin fantasy more. But I am still the Ajisoge they used to know.
