British-Nigerian actor Damson Idris is proving that talent, consistency and determination can take an actor from the streets of South London to the biggest stages in Hollywood. Born in Peckham, London, to Nigerian parents from Oyo State, Idris has become one of the most sought-after actors of his generation, winning over audiences with his powerful performances and commanding screen presence.
His breakthrough came through the hit FX crime drama Snowfall, where he portrayed Franklin Saint, a young drug kingpin navigating the dangerous cocaine trade in 1980s Los Angeles. His emotional and unforgettable performance transformed him into a global star and earned widespread critical acclaim.
One scene from Snowfall became an internet sensation after Idris delivered the now-famous line, “I built this… brick by brick!” The quote has since become a motivational phrase used by millions on TikTok, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), with fans using it to celebrate perseverance and success.
