Many were shocked, when Asiwaju Bola Tinubu dropped a bombshell at the Abeokuta APC presidential rally held on Wednesday 25th January, 2023 at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Coming from a member of the ruling APC, it immediately suggested that all is not well at the top echelon of the party, at the national level.
It also suggested that there is a sharp division within the ranks of those in the Buhari government.
Tinubu had told the mammoth crowd that the new naira redesign by the CBN and persistent fuel scarcity were all part of the plot to sabotage the coming election.
Speaking in Yoruba, Tinubu stated that “they don’t want this election to hold. They want to scuttle it. Will you allow them?”
He encouraged Nigerians to defy the fuel scarcity to exercise their franchise, stating that the poll would be a superior revolution.
“They have started coming up with the issue of ‘no fuel’. Don’t worry, if there is no fuel, we will trek to cast the vote.
“If you like, increase the price of fuel, hide the fuel or change the ink on the naira notes, we will win the election. We will use our PVCs (permanent voter cards) to take over the government from them; if they like, let them say there is no fuel, we will trek there (polling booths).
“They are full of mischief, they want to create a fuel crisis, they have started creating a fuel crisis, but, forget about it, put your mind at rest, I’m assuring you. I, Asiwaju will end fuel scarcity.
“Let the price of fuel continue to increase, they are the ones that know where they are hoarding it.
They are hoarding naira notes, they are hoarding fuel, we will vote and we will win.
“If you like, change the ink on the naira note, we will win the election, the opposition will be defeated.”
City People Magazine has confirmed that Tinubu was forced to say all these out of frustration, because of the activities of fifth columinists in the Buhari regime, who have been advocating policies that would work against the interest of the APC at both the federal, state, and local government levels.
City People has gathered that there is a cabal within the Buhari administration who are working at cross purposes with the mainstream views at the topmost level.
There are those who have strongly argued that the fuel scarcity and naira note redesign are targeted at creating problems for Tinubu, who is the flagbearer of the party.
Before Tinubu spoke last week, many political analysts had wondered how the ruling party that wants to win elections in a few days time will allow for fuel scarcity to degenerate to the extent where the populace are now buying fuel at N280, N300 per litre, a few weeks to general elections and the government is not saying anything or doing anything about it, observed a political analyst.
They have also been wondering why the ruling party will decide to redesign the naira a few months to elections, a move which has created problems for Nigerians.
City People gathered that Tinubu and Godwin Emefile, the CBN governor are not on good terms.
Insiders revealed that their fight dates back to the primaries. The CBN governor wanted to emerge as one of the presidential aspirants in APC but was frustrated out by Tinubu loyalists who saw him as a Spoiler.
Emefile had to pull out last minute and retained his job as CBN Governor.
Pro-Tinubu loyalists are alleging that the new CBN naira note redesign which has coincided with the February General elections is an attempt by Emefiele to settle scores with Tinubu.
They reveal that when Tinubu got wind of the move by Emefiele to redesign the naira, he met with Pres. Buhari to advise against that decision, in public interest. He wondered why the hurry in its implementation.
He also wondered why the naira redesign plan is set to take off in the same month of elections, with no extension of the deadline in sight.
City People has gathered that there is a powerful Cabal within the Buhari administration who don’t want the elections to hold because of their dislike for Tinubu. They believe that if the election holds today, Tinubu will win and they don’t want that to happen.
They believe one way to stop Tinubu from winning is not to allow the elections to hold by creating chaos, and if they can’t stop the elections from holding, put in place unpopular policies that will not make people vote for him.
City People also gathered that this Cabal have the listening ears of the President.
The fact that the Buhari regime is sharply divided can be seen in the letter Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, the Kano governor wrote to President Buhari to postpone his planned visit to the state due to security concerns and complaints from locals about difficulty in obtaining the new naira notes. Buhari was scheduled to visit the state on January 30 and 31 to commission some projects executed by the Ganduje administration.
