•GBADEBO RHODES-VIVOUR, Labour Party Guber Candidate

Architect Gbadebo Rhodes – Vivour, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, was part of an interactive session with political parties in Eko Club on Thursday, 26th January 2023. Vivour took time to reveal his plans for the people of Lagos State, if elected.

He spoke about Health Care, Education, Flood, Water, Transportation, Transparency, Land and Security.

Vivour promised to work on the health care in Lagos State. Hear him: “I will ensure we train our doctors and nurses, we will provide free medicals for our citizens, so many people are dying for lack of health care, some cannot afford hospital bills, some hospitals are not equipped enough to satisfy their patients, all these will stop when I get to the office”.

“Also, our education system is Nigeria is a shame, most people can not afford to pay school fees in private schools, and because of this, they get out of school. I was going out one day, during this our campaign, all these Agberos (area boys) will always come around to get money from us. I asked a few of them some questions, like, can you work if you are employed? To my surprise, not all of them are illiterates, some actually went to school and dropped out. Some left school due to lack of money, some lost their sponsors to death and more. How do you expect a widow, whose husband was the bread winner, to afford school fees of the children? Probably, maybe the woman was not working when the husband was alive, I will make sure I make education free for everyone. When you go to our public schools now, you will see a teacher, teaching and marking over 80 students books, how do we expect such a teacher to be effective? How will the students learn well? My government will invest more in education”.

Speaking on transportation, Vivour said he will also work more on transportation. “All these things are working abroad, so, I believe it will also work here. You get to your bus-stop at 7am and you are sure you will get to your office at 8am, even when you miss your bus, you will still meet up at the normal time, because,my government will make transportation work. If we don’t know where we are coming from, we should know where we are going”.

“Transparency is also important, my government will be transparent to all the citizens, there will be a portal, where everyone can monitor what is going on. There is no need leaving one project undone and jumping to another project, it was during Ambode’s regime that we knew bore hole was 70 million, we don’t need to allow politicians to rule us for a long time. Politicians are like baby diapers, you need to change them if they are not good, remove me if I don’t do well”.

Land is another issue in Lagos State, so many families in Lagos, who ought to be living big through their landed properties, are not. My government will ensure that all land owners get their land or compensation from the government.

“I will also ensure that the youths are gainfully employed, no one will depend on each other, everyone will work and earn money, and there will not be issue of delayed salary or no salary.

House rent is also an issue in Lagos State, It’s so funny when you have to pay over a million to get a 2-bed room flat, for example, in Surulere.

The issue of flooding is another problem in Lagos State, our waste management is waste dumping and not waste management. Look at Kwara State, for example, you have to travel far before you dump your waste, but, it is not so here. My government will ensure we work on waste management in Lagos State. We will also work on our drainage. As an architect, I will make sure the gutters are covered. I drove past the canals in Surulere and I wonder if we truly have a government in this state, my government will make sure canals and, gutters are well taken care of.

It is not by accident that Lagos State is the centre of excellence, Lagos State is number 1 in Nigeria and I will ensure we remain number 1. We will also deliver water to as many houses as possible in the next 4 years”.
