Good news coming from the ancient town of Ijebu holds that the long-standing vacuum of Orimolusi will be filled any moment from now as a new elected royal candidate has emerged
After a tough, and vigorous screening exercise carried out by an 11-man kingmaker, a son of the soil from the Ojuromi family has emerged in the person of Prince Lawrence Jaiyeoba Adebajo
The City of Ijebu-Igbo is one of the historic cities in the Ijebu axis of Ogun state with her own local Government known as Ijebu North.
One thing that stands Ijebu Igbo out is the large number of academia she boasts of in Professors. Some of the known Prominent sons of the town are former Deputy Governor of the state Senator Gbenga Kaka, Hon. Bode Mustapha, late Senator Kasamu Buruji and the Business Mogul himself Otunba Mike Adenuga to mention but a few.
However, one major problem that plagues the town for about 28years now was the absence of a Paramount ruler which has stunted the development of the town amongst many. Since the passage of the last known Paramount Ruler of the town Oba Adetayo Sami(Kupakude iv) who joined his ancestors in 1994, the Late Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, it has become an issue appointing a replacement. There has been infighting among the Princes who is expected to present the next king which is the Ojuromi ruling family. This family cut across the five quarters that make up Ijebu-Igbo (Ojowo, Oke Agbo,Atikori, Oke Sopen and Japara) efforts made by successive govt to resolve the logjam had yielded nothing positive to date.
But the state government under His Excellency Gov. Dapo Abiodun also an Ijebu man though from Remo division through the state ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs towards the end of 2021 directed the leadership of Ijebu North local government to inaugurate up an 11 man warrant chiefs Committee to begin the process for appointment of a new Orimolusi, the committee had 14 working days in which the two top contenders that are listed as being from male lineage contestants contained in 1997 documents presented by kingmakers to the state was used. The outcome of the interview conducted and presented to the state through the council by the committee Secretary is the Elected Prince Lawrence Jaiyeoba Adebajo who is from Isogun in Oke-Agbo. He is based in Lagos He defeated Prince Sadiku by 6(six) voted against the later 4(four) votes.
While the good people of Ijebu Igbo await the state government pronouncement on the elected Orimolusi by the warrant chief, the whole town of Ijebu-Igbo is in celebration mood as we write as Prince Adebajo was with his certificate of selection.
