•How It Was Set Up By 8 Members In 1978
Sometime in December 1978, a group of friends came together to set up a social club called Association of Friends nicknamed Up ASSO. They are 8 in number. They were pals. And this close friends were as follows: Alhaji Sulaimon Onabiyi (Life Chairman), Otunba (Architect) Festus Adeleke Adesina (President), Engineer Akinlawon Abiola (Vice President), Otunba Kunle Adesanya (Pioneer Liberty) General Secretary, Alhaji (now Kabiyeesi) Fatai Irawo (Treasurer), Prince Ayinde Adesiyan (now late) Social Secretary, Apostle Sunday Adigun (Member) and Evangelist Kola Sanyaolu Member.
Then, another 9 members joined. They are: Prince Gabriel Akomoh Yadua aka Professor (now late), Alhaji Rasak Adebiyi (now late), Dr. Foluso Badejo (now late), Mr. Salisu Raji Fuja (now late) Barrister Adewopo (now late), Mr. J. B. Aremu Amusan (now late), Mr. Sola Adeyemi, Otunba Yomi Nubi and Otunba Oyewola Johson Fasawe.
Today, the club has 137 members, with 30 members called to Glory. The club has very many prominent Nigerians as members. For instance, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey and King Sunny Ade are members. Hon. (Chief) Funsho Kinoshi, Alhaji Musbaqu Alebiosu are members. There is also Mr. Tayo Amodu, (popularly called Blacky). He is the Chairman of Chopsticks Chinese Restaurant on Opebi Road. There are others like Alhaji Akin Salawu, Otunba Kunle Adesanya (Liberty), Snr. Evang. Kola Sanyaolu, HRM Oba Abimbola Akinyemi and Barr. Gbenga Oshinowo. There are others like Otunba Akin Osiyemi, Prince Abiodun Oyesanya, Otunba (Capt) Tunde Amusa, Mr. Akin Majaro, Chief Pekun Williams, Mr. Ayo Oluyemi, Mr. Jimmys Afunso, Otunba Idowu Adenuga, Dr. Ademola Onifade, Alhaji (Prince) Isiaka Adedeji, HRM Oba Isiaka Balogun-Oyero, Alhaji (Chief) Niyi Adegbenro, Hon. Saka Shenayon, Otunba Ademola Afolabi, Aare (Dr.) Kola Oyefeso, Chief Samuel Olaniyi Bolarinde, Alh. Olu Owolabi, Alh. Moshood Olaniyan and Alhaji (Chief) Kamoru Adeyemi, The Alaperu of Iperu remo, HRM Oba Adeleke Idowu is a member. So also Alhaji (Chief) Buari Alade Oloto, Dele Banjo, Sola Agbelusi, Engr. Akolade Sanusi, Remi Caxton-Martins, Taiwo Talabi, HRM Oba Sikiru Kuti, Chief Tunde Fahm, Dr. Adetokunbo Adedeji, Oba Lateef Adams (Latris boss), Alhaji Chief Sheriff Folami, Chief Olayiwola A. Adenipebi, Capt. Kasim Braimoh, Aare Funmi Banjo, Hon. Oyinlomo Danmole, Mr. Sunny Soneye Thomas, Otunba Kola Olatunji, Arh. Sola Adesina, Otunba Wasiu Oyebola, Hon. Kayode Amusan, Hon. Dare Salako, and Alh. Sally Mohammed are members.
Otunba Henry Akinwunmi is a member. So also Chief S.B. Bakare, Alh. Lateef Abayomi Oloyede, Chief Sule Liadi, Otunba (Engr.) Sikiru A. Salami, Otunba Sakiru Bello, Otunba Dipo Orepitan, Mr. Babatunde Wilkey, Mr. Femi Aina, Alh. Chief Rabiu Amusa, Chief Paul Erinne, Aremo Adebola Ojugbele and Mr. Adetayo Oludare Banjo.
Alhaji Waheed Afolabi Odusanya is also a member, same with Mr. Oyetola Adeniyi. There are others like Chief Okpara Johnson Ubaka, Mr. Feyishitan Fashola, Engr. Mayowa Omosebi, Deacon Martins Fakoya, Arole Michael Olufemi Awotedu, Mr. Akolawole Adebayo Oyekoya, Abayomi Okundalaiye, Alh. Akeem Sokunbi, Mr. Ernest Mauyon Ajasa, Mr. Adebayo Babatunde, Musbau Makanjuola, Alhaji Biobaku Ola Shittu, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi and Mr. Sunday Rashidi Adesina.
Popular Fuji musician, Chief Adewale Ayuba is a member . Then Mr. Kessington Adegbuyi, Chief Fredrick Abayomi Lewis, Alh. Hammed Soyemi, Mr. Sunday Olujawon Ojo, Mr. Kayode Akinola, Engr. David Setonji, Alhaji Layiwola Olomowewe, Prince Yeniyi Taiwo, Mr. Segun Bashorun, Mr. Adebola Fagbule, Mr. Abiola Ilori, Barr. Abiodun Dabiri, and Lagos Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Others are Otunba Wale Okesola, Mr. Dejo Tewogbade Oyelowo, Alh. Adeyemo Olatunji Liakeem, Eng. Ademola Dare, ACG Tuji Aremi, Engr. The club has lost about 30 members over the last few years.
