Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, will confer chieftaincy titles on former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim, seven other eminent Nigerians.
City People gathered that the chieftaincy titles will be conferred on the dignitaries during one year coronation anniversary of the monarch in Ibadan, which will start on March 1, 2017.
Letters in respect of the titles, it was gathered, were sent to the proposed honourees and the Olubadan-In-Council is expecting responses from them.
Oba Adetunji, who was installed as the 41st Olubadan on Friday, March 4, 2016, will be one year on the throne on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
Addressing newsmen in Ibadan, two Sundays ago, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Oloye Lekan Alabi, who is also the Agba-Akin Olubadan of Ibadanland, refused to give names and details of those who will be honoured by the monarch.
He only said names and details of the honourees would be made public in due course.
Alabi also disclosed that, the anniversary will begin on March 1 with Olubadan City Carival, which is expected to be followed by a Public Lecture and tree planting on March 2.
On Friday, March 3, the monarch, is council of chiefs, Mogajis (compound heads), family members and friends will attend Jumat, “at Oja’ba Central Mosque.
On Saturday, March 4, the first batch of the chieftaincy titles would be conferred on deserving Nigerians at a royal banquet.
This will be followed by a church service on Sunday. Kalu, Tinubu, Ibrahim, as gathered are among highly-placed Nigerians who will be on honoured on the day, “based on their towering contributions too the growth and development of the country.”
The anniversary will be rounded off with a second batch of conferment of honourary chieftaincy titles on Monday.
