Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has justified his position on ranching, saying Nigerians should see the Nation’s properties as a collective asset for all.
He noted the notion will promote unity as against the ethnic clashes reported daily in various mediums.
Debunking rumors that he condemned anti grazing agitators, Oba Akanbi said there was no time in history he condemn any anti-grazing agitators.
Rather he said his argument was on the need for every Nigerian to see Nigeria and her soil as one so as to curb the frequent Fulani herdsmen and farmers’ clashes which results to lots of deaths.
In a statement released by Mr. Alli Ibraheem, press secretary to the Oluwo, Mr. Ibraheem said the Oluwo, was quoted out of context and said the stance of Afenifere is expected, sensing the huge loss the clashes have caused.
“There was never a time in history Oluwo faulted any of anti-grazing agitators. His position was for one Nigeria as a first class Paramount ruler and a father to the nation. Oluwo only called the attention of every Nigerian to the embrace unity, to see ourselves and soil as one.” He said.
Professing solution to the incessant Fulani-Farmers clashes, Oluwo said there is unpreparedness of the Federal Government agitation for ranching, noting that most herdsmen are ignorant of the method and application of ranching.
He tasked the government to launch an aggressive sensitization on ranching before making any request or promulgation on the system.
The Oluwo said, “Ranching is a modern practice of cattle rearing as applicable in advanced nations. Nigeria is developing nation and we need meat and food from our farms. It is a symbiotic relationship and this can only be achieved when we live I peace and unity.”
Oba Akanbi aslo tasked reporters to pay attention to his wordings and not to quote him out of context.
